Hardware Built for the Boreal
Rugged acoustic monitoring designed for year-round operation in Canada's most demanding forest environments.
AudioMoth Recording Device
At the core of the BorealSense system is the AudioMoth — a low-cost, full-spectrum acoustic logger and recorder developed by Open Acoustic Devices. It captures ultrasonic and audible audio across a wide frequency range, enabling detection of birds, bats, insects, and mammals.
Its compact size and low power consumption make it ideal for long-term remote deployment in boreal environments.
Built for the Boreal
The BorealSense unit is housed in a fully weatherproof, ruggedized enclosure rated for extreme boreal conditions — from summer humidity to winter temperatures below -40°C. The sealed case protects all electronics from moisture, dust, and wildlife interference.
Combined with a solar charging system, the unit operates year-round with zero maintenance visits required.
